Kedarkantha (3,810 m / 12,500 ft) in Govind Pashu Vihar National Park, Uttarkashi is one of the most rewarding winter treks in India. The trail passes through snow-covered pine forests, frozen Juda Ka Talab lake and alpine meadows. The summit offers stunning 360° panoramic views of the western Himalayas. Dehradun → Sankri (6,400 ft)

Pick up from Dehradun ISBT. Drive to Sankri via Mussoorie, Barkot and Mori (approx. 8–9 hrs). Trek briefing and equipment check. Acclimatisation walk. Overnight at Sankri guest house.

Kedarkantha Trek — Day 1
Day 2 Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Sankri → Juda Ka Talab (9,100 ft)

Begin trek from Sankri (approx. 4 km / 4–5 hrs) through dense oak and pine forests. Camp at Juda Ka Talab — a frozen lake surrounded by towering pines, magical in winter. Afternoon acclimatisation walk. Overnight in camps.

Kedarkantha Trek — Day 2
Day 3 Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Juda Ka Talab → Kedarkantha Base (11,250 ft)

Trek through snow-covered meadows to Kedarkantha Base Camp (approx. 4 km / 3–4 hrs). Direct views of the summit. Hot soup, rest, and evening briefing for summit day. Overnight in camps.

Kedarkantha Trek — Day 3
Day 4 Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Summit Day → Kedarkantha (12,500 ft) → Hargaon (8,900 ft)

Early start at 2:00 AM. Ascend to Kedarkantha summit (approx. 4.5 km / 4–5 hrs). Sunrise: 360° panoramic views of Swargarohini, Bandarpunch, Kala Nag and the Gangotri range. Descend to Hargaon camp. Total trail: approx. 14 km.

Kedarkantha Trek — Day 4
Day 5 Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Hargaon → Sankri

Trek back to Sankri through rhododendron forest (approx. 5 km / 3 hrs). Certificate distribution ceremony. Hot showers available. Celebration dinner. Overnight at Sankri guest house.

Kedarkantha Trek — Day 5
Day 6 Breakfast

Sankri → Dehradun → Departure

After early breakfast, drive back to Dehradun (approx. 8–9 hrs). Drop at ISBT / Railway Station. Trek ends — with a summit certificate and unforgettable Himalayan memories.

Safety Guidelines

  • Follow the trek leader's instructions at all times
  • No trekking alone — always stay with the group
  • AMS is a risk above 10,000 ft: descend immediately if symptoms appear
  • Keep hydration levels high throughout the trek
  • No alcohol or smoking at high camps
  • Do not litter in forests or national park areas
  • On summit day, turn back if weather changes or you feel unwell

Medical Notes

  • Moderate fitness required — jogging 5 km comfortably is a good benchmark
  • Do not attempt if you have cardiac, respiratory or severe knee conditions
  • Consult your physician if you have any chronic health condition
  • Basic altitude sickness awareness: Diamox available on prescription
  • Summit day starts at 2:00 AM — mental preparation and layering are critical
